Ministry of Health to Launch Universal Healthcare Vouchers in Linden

February 20, 2025

The Ministry of Health is set to introduce a universal healthcare voucher program in Linden in March, expanding access to essential health services for residents.

The initiative, part of the government’s 2025 budget, will allow individuals to undergo medical tests at both private and public health facilities, helping to establish crucial baseline health data.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, also announced an extension of the current eye-testing and spectacles voucher program.

The age requirement for the program will be lowered from 65 to 50 years, enabling more people to benefit from the $15,000 voucher for purchasing spectacles.

Last year, the program saw approximately 60,000 Guyanese receiving eye tests, with about 55,000 individuals benefiting from the financial assistance for eyewear.

The universal healthcare voucher is part of a broader $5 billion initiative, which is expected to reach approximately 500,000 people across the country.

Dr. Anthony emphasized the government’s commitment to improving healthcare access and ensuring that vital medical tests are accessible to all.
