The coaching staff of Guyana’s Under-21 men’s hockey team, led by Head Coach Robert Fernandes, has finalized the squad for the upcoming Pan American Hockey Federation Junior Challenge.

The tournament, which serves as the regional qualifier for the Junior Pan American Games, will be held in Barbados from March 8 to 16.

The competition will determine qualification for the Junior Pan American Games, scheduled for August 9 to 22 in Paraguay.

In the men’s category, Guyana will compete in a single-pool format against teams from Brazil, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, and Venezuela.

The national team will begin their campaign against Guatemala, followed by matches against Trinidad and Tobago, Venezuela, Brazil, and finally host nation Barbados.

Coach Fernandes expressed confidence in the squad, emphasizing that the team comprises a core group of players with previous international experience.

He highlighted the importance of this familiarity in adapting to the competitive environment.

The squad includes Darious Alleyne, Donnel Alleyne, Shaquon Favorite, Grant Fernandes, Baraka Garnett, Anthony Harry, Javid Hussain, Jabari Lovell, Robert Marcus, Simeon Moore, Yonnick Norton, Shane Sargeant, Nkosi Saul, Quinn Tobin, Vladimir Woodroffe, and Daniel Woolford.

Standby players are Clay Bobb and Navid Hussain.

Supporting the squad, the coaching staff also features Assistant Coaches John Abraham, Shane Samuels, and Tivesarid Garnett.

The team will continue preparations ahead of their departure for Barbados, aiming to secure a spot at the Junior Pan American Games later this year.
