The Social Development Committee of the Linden Town Council officially launched Linden Town Week 2025 on Sunday evening at the Linden Theme Park.
The annual celebration, which will run from April 25 to May 6, will once again be held under the theme “We are One People, One Nation, One Destiny, Linden the Heart of Guyana.”
During the ceremony, Mayor Sharma Solomon promised that this year’s event would surpass previous editions, highlighting its growing significance.
He revealed that the 2024 Linden Town Week generated GY$10.5 million over ten days and encouraged residents to participate by showcasing their businesses, products, food, and culture.
Founder of Linden Town Week, Norville Fredricks, emphasized the importance of incorporating more culture-based activities to foster a greater sense of pride in the community.
Meanwhile, Regional Vice Chairman of Region 10, Mark Goring, reaffirmed the Regional Democratic Council’s support for the event.
Region 10 Tourism Committee Chair Devin Sears noted a significant increase in accommodations for the festival, with available rooms rising from 200 last year to 318 this year.
Additionally, the event has garnered backing from the Linden Chamber of Industry, Commerce, and Development, with its chair, Lindon Younge, stressing the economic benefits of the celebration.
However, the launch was not without controversy.
The Linden Municipality issued a statement on Sunday morning disassociating itself from the event, citing a lack of involvement or approval in the decision to proceed with the launch.
Despite this, organizers remain optimistic that Linden Town Week 2025 will be a success, continuing its tradition of celebrating the town’s rich culture, economic potential, and community spirit.
