Farmers in Cane Grove, Mahaica, have rejected recent claims of government neglect in the community’s drainage and irrigation (D&I) system.
Allegations made by a former chairman of the Water Users Committee suggested that cash crop farmers were facing losses due to clogged channels and impassable dams.
However, local farmers have dismissed these statements, pointing instead to ongoing improvements in critical infrastructure.
According to the farmers, the Ministry of Agriculture has been actively involved in maintaining and upgrading D&I systems, ensuring better conditions for agricultural production.
They acknowledged visible progress in infrastructure development, including road repairs and improved access to farmlands.
The Ministry of Agriculture, through the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority, has been executing extensive works in Cane Grove and other farming communities nationwide.
With over $73 billion allocated for D&I initiatives this year, these efforts aim to enhance farming conditions and boost agricultural productivity.
