Over 1000 Passports Awaiting Pickup at Immigration Offices

By Delicia Janneire

The Deputy Chief Immigration Officer, Superintendent Stephen Telford, is urging the public to collect their passports from immigration offices, with over a thousand passports currently awaiting pickup.

During an interview, Superintendent Telford revealed that more than 1000 passports are available for collection at the Camp Street office.

Additionally, passports are also awaiting pickup at decentralized offices in Linden, New Amsterdam, and Anna Regina.

He called on individuals to visit these locations and collect their documents.

In response to concerns about the new electronic passport, which is part of the ongoing digitalization of immigration services, Telford explained that the new passport will be an online process and will contain a chip along with biometrics.

However, the issuance of the new passport will only be possible after the expiration of the current one.

The new electronic passport will integrate with the digital systems at Cheddi Jagan International Airport, which includes the use of electronic immigration forms and automated embarkation and disembarkation gates.
