Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, has addressed recent claims regarding illegal land sales under the current government, denying any involvement in corrupt practices.
Minister Nandlall emphasized that land sale procedures under the People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) administration are conducted legally and follow strict protocols set by the Central Housing and Planning Authority.
The process involves evaluating proposals from potential investors based on factors such as investment size, capital, and the long-term benefits to the country.
The Attorney General explained that for a proposal to be accepted, it must meet all necessary requirements, including the demonstration of sufficient capital to develop the project.
Once the relevant agencies are satisfied with the criteria, the proposals are submitted to the Cabinet for approval.
Nandlall also provided an example of unlawful land sales under the previous Coalition government.
He referred to the allocation of 900 acres of land at Ogle during the no-confidence motion and the period leading up to the 2020 elections, when the government was functioning in a caretaker role.
The land, sold for significantly lower prices, had not met the terms stipulated in the agreements.
The Attorney General reiterated that the current administration is committed to addressing and, where necessary, reversing such transactions.
