In observance of World Cancer Day 2025, two cancer survivors shared their personal journeys and emphasized the importance of early screenings and routine checkups to maintain overall health and well-being.

The event, held by the Periwinkle Club at Muneshwers Limited, aimed to raise awareness about cancer and its impact on individuals and families.

The theme for this year’s observance is “United by Unique,” reflecting the need for personalized care and support for each cancer survivor.

Tiny Ferreira, a 16-year cancer survivor, spoke candidly about the emotional and physical challenges she faced after her diagnosis.

Despite initially feeling overwhelmed by hopelessness, Ferreira found strength in herself and was determined to fight.

Her message to others in similar situations was one of hope, urging them not to give up and to keep fighting.

Margaret Norton, another survivor, has been cancer-free for 22 years.

At 77 years old, she shared her experience of waiting too long to seek help, advising others not to wait for symptoms to appear before getting checked.

Norton stressed the importance of early detection and regular screenings, as they can lead to better outcomes and quicker intervention.

The President of the Periwinkle Club, Andrea Joseph, also spoke on the significance of the theme, emphasizing the club’s long-standing efforts to support cancer survivors and raise awareness in the community.

Joseph encouraged more people to join the club’s mission and help make a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
