Coaches from Spanish football club Racing Madrid FC are currently in Guyana, working with the National U17 boys’ team as they prepare for the upcoming Concacaf Championships, set to begin on February 7 in Costa Rica.
This initiative is part of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed in October 2023 between the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) and Racing Madrid FC.
The agreement, signed by GFF President Wayne Forde and Racing Madrid FC President Steve Nijjar, focuses on coaching education and player development.
Through this partnership, the U17 squad is being led by coach Marco Bonofiglio, alongside sports scientist and performance analyst Dr. Steve Gennaro.
Dr. Gennaro, speaking on the collaboration, emphasized the primary goal of the initiative.
“What we want is to create a foundation that allows players and coaches to continue developing even after our time here,” he explained.
While the program is geared toward enhancing coaching standards in Guyana, Dr. Gennaro reaffirmed Racing Madrid FC’s commitment to supporting the overall growth of local football.
“The intention is to provide as much knowledge and resources as we can, and we’re happy to be here playing a role in football development,” he added.
Racing Madrid FC, a professional club based in Spain, is affiliated with Genova International School—recognized as one of the world’s leading academies for player development.
With the Concacaf Championships fast approaching, the Guyanese U17 squad is benefiting from high-level training and analysis, giving them an edge as they prepare to represent the nation on the regional stage.
