The Guyana Harpy Eagles opened their Cricket West Indies (CWI) Regional Championship campaign in emphatic fashion, defeating the Barbados Pride by 10 wickets on the third day of their first-round match at the Guyana National Stadium.
Resuming on 315-3 in response to Barbados’ first-innings total of 347, Guyana was eventually bowled out for 382, taking a slim 36-run lead.
Kevlon Anderson starred with a brilliant century, scoring 101 off 157 balls, including 15 fours.
Meanwhile, Kemol Savoury narrowly missed his own century, falling for 99.
For Barbados, West Indies white-ball pacer Matthew Forde made an impressive first-class debut, claiming 5-69, while Jair McAllister provided support with 2-68.
However, Barbados faltered in their second innings, struggling to 24-2 at lunch and failing to gain momentum.
Captain Shamarh Brooks fought hard with 37, but wickets continued to tumble. Jonathan Drakes (26) and Kevin Wickham (22) made brief contributions before debutant Ashmead Nedd ripped through the batting lineup.
Looknauth Chinkoo delivered another standout performance, taking 4-69 to add to his first-innings haul.
Barbados was dismissed for just 72, leaving Guyana a target of 77 runs.
Openers Tagenarine Chanderpaul (40*) and Matthew Nandu (33*) comfortably chased down the target, sealing the victory without losing a wicket.
With this dominant performance, the defending champions will next face the Combined Campuses and Colleges at the same venue on Wednesday from 10:00 AM.
