Phase Two of Carifesta Road Widening Project Commences

By Delicia Janneire | January 28, 2025

Phase two of the Carifesta roadworks has officially begun on the southern carriageway, marking a significant step forward in the ongoing road improvement efforts.

The project is being executed by Quality Deliverer, with an investment of 1.4 billion dollars.

This phase involves both drainage and road widening works, extending from the roundabout at Kitty to Camp Street, and is expected to be completed over the course of 14 months.

During a stakeholder engagement, Project Engineer from the Ministry of Public Works, Kester Hinds, outlined the scope of works for the project.

The main objective is to expand the road to four lanes, which will include two driving lanes on the southern side, as well as a parking lane and a cycle lane.

However, challenges remain, particularly the preservation of the trees in the national park.

Hinds assured that measures will be implemented to avoid compromising the structure of these trees during construction.

Minister of Public Works, Hon. Juan Edghill, also addressed stakeholders, including Marian Academy, assuring them that the works would be carried out swiftly.

He emphasized the need for a collaborative approach to managing the traffic disruptions during construction, especially involving the police and the school’s parent-teacher association.

The road widening project is poised to improve the infrastructure along Carifesta Avenue, easing traffic flow and accommodating future growth in the area.
