Demerara Under-15 delivered a dominant performance in a practice match against the East Coast Cricket Board Under-17, winning by 48 runs at the LBI Ground over the weekend.
The victory served as a confidence booster for Demerara as they continue their preparations for the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board Under-15 Inter-County Tournament.
The match, initially scheduled for 50 overs, was shortened to 40 overs per side due to overnight rainfall.
Demerara, batting first, posted a total of 152-8.
Opener Lomar Seecharran top-scored with 29 runs, while Makai Dowlin (23), Joshua Bollers (22), and Vinesh Kalpoo (20) all made valuable contributions.
Shahid Ramzan added a quickfire 15 late in the innings to bolster the team’s total.
In response, East Coast Under-17 started their chase with optimism but were quickly reduced to 104 all out in just 23.4 overs.
Demerara’s fast bowler and vice-captain, Patrice Fraser, set the tone early, taking three wickets in his first over, including a triple-wicket maiden that left East Coast on the back foot.
Despite some resistance from Yannick Newton (26) and Arun Gainda (20), the introduction of off-spinner Shahid Ramzan proved decisive.
Ramzan delivered two triple-wicket maidens and finished with excellent figures of 4-16 from five overs.
Fraser wrapped up the East Coast innings with 3-15 from four overs, sealing the 48-run victory.
East Coast’s bowlers, Narindra Isurdeen (2-10) and Rishi Seodat (2-12), showed promise, but their efforts were not enough to defend their side’s modest total.
Demerara’s all-round performance positions them well as they prepare for their next fixture on Sunday, January 26, at the same venue.
