Fire Destroys Silvertown Community Centre

January 22, 2025

A fire of unknown origin completely destroyed the Silvertown Community Centre on Tuesday night, rendering the building unusable.

The fire, which broke out around 10:00 PM, caused significant damage, particularly to the top floor of the structure.

The community centre, which served as an important hub for learning and entertainment, was used for various activities by schools and other institutions in the area.

It also functioned as a registration site for the $100,000 cash grant initiative in the region.

Patrick Caesar, the manager of the centre, recalled the events of the night. He explained that the fire consumed the upper level of the building, leaving behind extensive damage.

The centre was known for providing free internet access to students, helping them complete assignments and homework, a service that has now been disrupted by the fire.

The loss of the centre is expected to have a negative impact on the community, especially on the youth who relied on its resources.

Local residents have expressed hopes that the centre will be rebuilt soon, so it can continue serving the community’s educational and recreational needs.

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
