2025 Budget to Propel Berbice’s Growth and Development

By Saskia Warrick | January 22, 2025

The 2025 National Budget will focus on furthering Berbice’s development through targeted investments in key areas like infrastructure, healthcare, education, and economic diversification, according to Ryan Alexander, President of the Berbice Chamber of Commerce.

Alexander highlighted that Berbice, long recognized as an agricultural powerhouse for its rice and sugar production, has seen significant investments in recent years aimed at diversifying its economy and creating new opportunities.

He emphasized that this year’s budget will continue to drive growth across several sectors.

Key projects to be funded include the International Palmyra Stadium, which is expected to boost tourism, and the New Amsterdam Track and Field facility, enhancing local sports development.

Additionally, the construction of the Corentyne River Bridge and the expansion of the Palmyra-to-Moleson Creek road will improve trade, transportation, and regional connectivity.

“These infrastructural investments have led to a marked increase in private sector activity, particularly in accommodation and agriculture,” Alexander said, noting that the region has already seen growth in these areas.

Moreover, investments in education and training facilities will better equip the workforce to meet the demands of emerging industries, securing long-term growth and sustainability for Berbice.

With these initiatives, Alexander is confident that the 2025 budget will fuel continued progress and further position Berbice as a region of economic promise.
