The Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM) is ramping up efforts to ensure a seamless electoral process for the 2025 general and regional elections.
While the official election date has yet to be announced, significant preparations are already underway.
GECOM Commissioner, Sase Gunraj, explained that the groundwork is focused on crucial activities such as recruitment, training, and procurement.
One key area is the training of temporary staff, as the elections require a substantial workforce.
Gunraj highlighted that the Chief Elections Officer recently submitted a workplan to outline the pre-election activities.
The procurement process for both sensitive and non-sensitive election materials is also a high priority.
These materials, essential for the elections, are being sourced early to avoid delays.
Additionally, logistical preparations are being handled in the background to ensure readiness when the time comes.
Further updates will be provided once the official election date is confirmed.
According to the constitution, the general and regional elections are due in the last quarter of this year.
