Local Content App to Empower Guyanese for Oil and Gas Sector Jobs

By Delicia Janneire, January 15, 2025

The government is set to launch the Local Content App in February, aimed at making it easier for Guyanese to access information on job opportunities within the oil and gas sector.

This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts to ensure that Guyanese are well-equipped and certified for roles in the petroleum industry.

Dr. Martin Pertab, Director of the Local Content Secretariat, shared that the app has already received approval from the Apple App Store and is currently in the verification stage for approval from the Google Play Store.

The app will be officially launched at the upcoming energy conference.

Minister of Natural Resources, Vickram Bharrat, emphasized the government’s commitment to training Guyanese to ensure they have access to a broad range of job opportunities, beyond just hospitality roles.

He referenced a new cohort of 33 individuals who began training at the Guyana Technical Training College in Port Mourant, Berbice, for the six-month FacTor Simulator program.

The program aims to enhance the technical skills of young Guyanese for employment in the oil and gas sector.

Minister Bharrat also highlighted that the entire 2024 cohort from this training program is now employed on the Unity Floating Production Storage and Offloading (FPSO) unit.

Additionally, 10 students studying in China through a partnership with CNOOC will return to take up positions in the local oil and gas industry.

The launch of the Local Content App and continued training efforts are expected to significantly boost the participation of Guyanese in the oil and gas sector, promoting a skilled workforce capable of filling technical roles.
