The Guyana Basketball Federation (GBF) has announced its 15-person squad for the upcoming Nation’s Cup tournament in Paramaribo, Suriname, from January 24–27.
The announcement came after a two-day trial held at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall, where shortlisted players had the opportunity to showcase their skills in front of the coaching staff.
Head Coach Adrian Hooper, with the assistance of Coach Marlon Rodrigues, selected the final team after a highly competitive selection process.
The team will compete against Suriname and Grenada in the regional tournament.
The finalized squad includes:
- Stanton Rose (Untouchables) – Captain
- Orlan Glasgow (Royals)
- Harold Adams (Royals)
- Travis Belgrave (Eagles)
- Nikkoloi Smith (Ravens)
- Domair Gladstone (Untouchables)
- Shane Webster (Colts)
- Jermaine Slater (Kobras)
- Denzel Ross (Eagles)
- Oquacey Shortt (Colts)
- Kimol Grimmond (Untouchables)
- Zian Grey (Eagles)
- Jushawn Bayley (Royals)
- Yannick Tappin (Royals)
- Shamaar Huntley (Ravens)
Originally, 23 players were invited to the trials, making the final selection an especially competitive process.
Coach Hooper commented that the intensity of the trials made narrowing down the team a tough decision, as the players gave their all.
The selected squad will undergo two additional training sessions this week before the final 12 players are named on Friday.
This preparation is critical for the team’s success in the Nations Cup, which will also play a significant role in their buildup for the Caribbean Basketball Confederation (CBC) Championship.
Additionally, GBF President Michael Singh confirmed plans to host a version of the Nations Cup in Guyana this May, featuring three other CBC teams.
The tournament in Suriname will serve as a vital test for Guyana’s Senior Men’s Team as they prepare for back-to-back games against regional rivals.
