Linden’s Block 22 Flames and Amelia Ward Jets earned impressive victories on Sunday as action resumed in the “One Guyana” Premier Basketball League at the Retrieve Hard Court in Region Ten.
Both teams triumphed comfortably in their respective matchups, continuing to showcase their dominance in the league.
In the first game, Block 22 Flames overcame Masters with a 56-51 victory in a closely contested battle.
Shamar Savory and Johnathon Clarke led the way for Block 22 Flames, scoring 19 and 18 points, respectively.
Despite a valiant effort from Masters, with Jason Squires contributing 16 points and Drumson McCauley adding 12, they fell short by just five points.
In the second matchup, Amelia Ward Jets secured a 69-50 win against Panthers.
The Jets started strong and maintained their momentum throughout the game, with Quincy Easton leading the charge, scoring 16 points.
Stephen George also contributed 11 points to the team’s cause.
For the Panthers, Shaquan Archer recorded 17 points, while Jermaine Booker added 16, but their efforts were not enough to close the gap.
The “One Guyana” Premier Basketball League, sponsored by the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport, and the National Sports Commission, features 22 teams across the Jaguars and Harpy Eagles conferences.
With bragging rights and substantial cash prizes on the line, the tournament is set to conclude in April.
First place will receive one million dollars, second place will earn half a million, and third and fourth place teams will also take home cash prizes along with trophies.
A scheduled match between the Plaisance Guardians and King, along with the East Coast All-Stars versus Berbice Renegades, was postponed and a new date will be announced.
The tournament continues to deliver exciting basketball action as teams vie for supremacy in the “One Guyana” league.
