Helping Hands NGO Brings New Year Joy to Seniors and Children in West Watooka

January 10, 2025

The Helping Hands Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) spread New Year joy to both senior citizens and children at the James Residence in West Watooka over the weekend.

Chairperson Sherry Fyffe-James shared that the event, which was formerly hosted by the PPP/C Wismar Flat Group, now falls under Helping Hands, an organization that has grown to give back to the community.

This year, sixty hampers were distributed to senior citizens, along with two hundred and eighty toys for the children.

Additionally, forty-five monetary gifts were provided to seniors who did not receive hampers.

Sherry James highlighted that Helping Hands completed over 25 projects in 2024, such as repairing steps and assisting with storm clean-up efforts.

In interviews with two beneficiaries, Joan Luke, a senior citizen, expressed gratitude for the event, praising Sherry’s dedication to giving back, while Harold Evans also shared his appreciation for the kindness shown.

Ms. James thanked sponsors, including Dr. Gregory Harris, Charlene Mc Rae, Prime Minister’s representative Orin Wilson, and others for their contributions that made the event successful.

These acts of charity and love exemplify the positive impact Helping Hands continues to make in the community.
