The Caledonia Water Treatment Plant on the East Bank of Demerara has been officially commissioned, marking a major milestone in improving water access for over 12,000 residents.
This development is part of Guyana’s broader efforts to modernize its water infrastructure and ensure sustainable access to clean water across the country.
The facility is a key component of the government’s Integrated Water Resource Management Program, which aims to modernize the nation’s water systems.
President Dr. Irfaan Ali, in his remarks during the ceremony, emphasized the government’s commitment to addressing long-standing challenges in the water sector.
He noted the importance of updating outdated systems while simultaneously meeting the growing demands of housing and industrial development.
Housing and Water Minister, Collin Croal, also highlighted the significance of the Caledonia plant, describing it as part of the government’s broader effort to guarantee every Guyanese household has access to clean and reliable water.
The plant will supply between 12,000 and 14,000 residents from New Hope to Soesdyke, delivering over seven mega-litres of treated water daily.
This new plant is a crucial step forward in Guyana’s mission to revolutionize its water management system and improve the quality of life for its citizens.
