The Ministry of Amerindian Affairs (MOAA) has made significant progress in advancing the Amerindian Land Titling process, issuing 21 titles over the last four years.

This achievement was highlighted by Minister of Amerindian Affairs, Pauline Sukhai, during a year-in-review briefing held today.

Since 2020, the government has successfully issued land titles, fulfilling its commitment to advance land rights for Amerindian communities.

The Amerindian Land Titling Project is crucial in securing access to ancestral lands and natural resources, aiming to promote sustainable social and economic development within these communities.

Under the current administration, the percentage of land owned by Amerindians has seen a notable increase, rising from 6% to 16.4%.

This expansion highlights the government’s ongoing efforts to empower Amerindian communities and protect their land rights.

Additionally, the government has continued its efforts to support Amerindian villages by issuing two certificates of title, six absolute grants, and seven land demarcations at the most recent National Toshaos Council Conference.

Minister Sukhai emphasized the government’s continued commitment to ensuring that Amerindian land rights are recognized and protected for future generations, reinforcing the importance of land titling in advancing the wellbeing of these communities.
