Housing Minister Warns Against Squatting as 800 Lots to be Regularized in Linden

January 7, 2025

Minister of Housing and Water, Collin Croal, has cautioned residents of Linden against squatting, as the government plans to regularize over 800 additional house lots in the region by mid-2025.

During a meeting with residents in Victory Valley on Sunday, the Minister provided updates on the government’s efforts to improve land ownership in the area through its ‘Operation Clean Up’ initiative.

The operation aims to facilitate legal ownership of land by working diligently across various areas to ensure residents receive title to the land they occupy, rather than relying on informal or illegal settlement methods.

Minister Croal reported that in 2024, over 750 lots were regularized and more than 1,600 house lots were allocated across the country.

The government’s priority areas for regularization in Linden include Silver Hill on the Linden-Soesdyke Highway, Siberian, Coomacka in the Mines, West Watooka, and Blocks E and F in Canvas City.

The Minister also highlighted the completion of land regularization in Fitz Hope, despite previous challenges with squatting in the area.

In total, 442 lots in Fitz Hope have now been regularized, allowing residents to obtain formal ownership of the land.

In addition to the regularization efforts, Minister Croal noted that Region Ten is the only region in the country that benefits from 100% treated water.
