Preparations for this year’s grand Old Year’s Night celebration, hosted by President Mohammed Irfaan Ali, are well underway as Georgetown’s Main Street is being transformed into the epicenter of an unforgettable New Year’s Eve event.
Workers are putting the final touches on the grand stage in front of the iconic Bank of Guyana, which will serve as the centerpiece of the festivities.
At the opening of the Christmas Village earlier this month, President Ali announced that this year’s celebration would be unlike any other.
In a historic move, he revealed that the celebration would stretch across Main Street, with all branches of the national security services—Police, Fire Service, and Prison Service—joining forces to create a massive, family-friendly event to usher in the New Year.
The celebration will feature performances by local artists, dance troupes, and poets, culminating in a spectacular fireworks display at midnight that will light up the skies above Georgetown.
In addition to the celebrations in Georgetown, similar events will take place across Guyana’s ten administrative regions.
This year’s theme, Celebrating the Successes of 2024: Ushering Greater Collective Focus in 2025 on the Road to National Transformation, reflects the nation’s ongoing progress and vision for the future.
