Pensioners across Guyana have started collecting the $100,000 cash grant at National Insurance Scheme (NIS) offices.
The grant, which is aimed at providing financial assistance to pensioners, is being disbursed in Regions 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, and 10.
To collect their cheques, pensioners are required to bring their national ID cards and visit the same NIS office where they originally registered.
The cash grant distribution began recently and will continue until January 3, 2025.
For those unable to collect their grants by the deadline, the government has made arrangements for alternative distribution in their respective villages.
Many pensioners have expressed how beneficial the grant is, with some indicating plans to use the funds for household improvements, family assistance, or other personal needs.
The cash grant is seen as a valuable support measure to help pensioners during the holiday season and into the coming year.
The NIS offices are working to ensure the smooth disbursement of the grants, and the government is committed to providing additional options for those facing difficulty in collecting their payments before the end of the distribution period.
