Minister of Agriculture, Zulfikar Mustapha, conducted an on-site inspection of the ongoing improvements at Meadowbank Wharf, where 80% of the $190 million project has been completed.

The project, which was initiated as a commitment by President Irfaan Ali, includes the construction of sheds for fisherfolk, improvements to water quality, and the addition of a new sanitary block.

During the inspection, Minister Mustapha expressed satisfaction with the progress of the works and outlined plans for further enhancements.

He stated that by the end of January, or possibly earlier, the wharf could be commissioned, with the President returning for the formal opening.

The Minister also highlighted the importance of the fisheries sector, noting its significant growth and the role it plays in supporting many Guyanese livelihoods.

Fish vendors at the wharf have also expressed their approval of the new, more comfortable selling area, which they believe will improve their work conditions.
