The Caring For Others Non-Governmental Organization (NGO) hosted its ninth annual Toy Drive last Saturday at the Revival Church in Wisroc, bringing holiday cheer to thousands.
Despite the inclement weather, parents and children from all over the community gathered to receive their gifts, marking a successful and heartwarming event.
Founded by overseas-based Guyanese Eslyn Shockley and led by Opposition Parliamentarian Jermaine Figueira, the initiative reached more than 6,000 children, senior citizens, teachers, and nurses.
Each child received five toys, totaling 30,000 gifts distributed across eight constituencies, including a visit to Ituni.
Figueira highlighted the initiative’s growing success, noting that the event continues to expand each year.
He emphasized the effort to maintain a well-organized distribution despite the challenges posed by the weather.
Additionally, 80 senior citizens received food baskets, and 50 teachers were awarded therapeutic mattresses, televisions, and microwaves.
In response to feedback, Figueira also announced that 20 nurses would receive similar gifts, addressing their concerns about being overlooked.
The generous gesture aligns with the mission of Eslyn Shockley, who is committed to aiding those in need during the holiday season.
