Plans to install an automated teller machine (ATM) at the Wismar Market are moving forward with construction expected to start shortly after the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Citizens Bank Guyana Limited.
The long-awaited project, which was first committed to by Banks DIH and Citizens Bank in 2023, was recently highlighted during a ceremony at the Wismar Bazaar.
Linden Mayor, Sharma Solomon, expressed his excitement about the upcoming development, noting that the ATM will significantly benefit residents.
The ATM is expected to be operational 24 hours a day and will provide greater access to financial services for the Wismar community, which is home to a large portion of the population.
Mayor Solomon emphasized that the new facility would help meet the area’s growing needs, especially as Wismar currently lacks a financial institution or banking system.
In addition to the ATM, the market will see increased transport options, including the availability of taxis for residents.
The initiative has been met with enthusiasm, particularly from senior citizens and local vendors who believe the project will further stimulate the area’s economic growth.
The construction is set to begin after the official signing of the MoU, expected this weekend.
