Eighty-two students have successfully completed the Ministry of Health’s Clinical and Technical Training program, bolstering Guyana’s healthcare workforce.
The graduation ceremony took place at the Atlantic Ballroom, Pegasus Suites.
The graduates included 25 X-ray technicians, 28 Environmental Health Assistants, 16 Dentex professionals, and 13 Pharmacy Assistants.
Two students from the Belize Defence Force were also among the cohort.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony, in his feature address, encouraged the graduates to view this achievement as a stepping stone, emphasizing the importance of continued education and professional growth.
Health Education Officer Chandroutie Persaud-Bahadur presented the Ministry’s program report, noting significant advancements in training.
The Clinical and Technical Training program has grown substantially, increasing its annual output from 35 pharmacy assistants to 64 in 2024, with an additional 71 trainees set to graduate by mid-2025.
The expansion is also evident in other areas, with 86 medical lab technicians and 216 community health workers trained this year, compared to 25 and 50 annually in previous years.
This graduating class joins the healthcare workforce at a critical time, as six new hospitals are under construction across Guyana.
Their contributions will play a vital role in the government’s mission to enhance healthcare delivery nationwide.
