The Wismar Market Vendors Association (WMVA) brought joy to senior citizens in Linden on Tuesday with a heartfelt gesture of distributing hampers and gifts.

The event, held at the Wismar Market, aimed to express gratitude to the town’s elders for their invaluable contributions over the years.

His Worship Mayor Sharma Solomon addressed the gathering, emphasizing the importance of honoring and respecting senior citizens for their role in shaping the community.

“We would want that, when that time comes, persons like myself or even younger can do just what the WMVA is doing today. We sincerely thank you for all you have done,” Mayor Solomon remarked.

He highlighted the lasting impact of the seniors’ contributions, whether through work in the bauxite industry or other areas critical to the town’s development.

The mayor also encouraged the association and others to remember the elderly not only during the festive season but throughout the year.

Among those present was Linden’s oldest citizen at the event, 90-year-old Eileen Samuels.

She expressed gratitude and shared her hopes for a long and healthy life, reflecting on her family’s history of longevity.

“I thank God to see the years, and I hope to live to see many more by the grace of God,” Samuels said.

She also stressed the importance of self-care as a key to her well-being.

The initiative by the WMVA was a heartfelt reminder of the value of giving back to the community and celebrating those who paved the way for its progress.
