By Tracey Liverpool, December 7, 2024

Construction of the new Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge is progressing as planned, with the project team providing an update on its developments.

Project Engineer Pavel Magin reported that work on a temporary bridge, which began in November, is underway.

The temporary structure, which includes both a main bridge and a platform, is set to be completed by December.

Platform construction will commence in January.

Public Relations Officer Abbey Jaye-Skeete noted that construction on the eastern bank of the bridge is nearly finished.

By the weekend, efforts will shift to the western bank of the bridge.

Magin explained that the temporary bridge will allow for piling work to begin in January.

Piling is the foundation phase for the permanent structure, which will continue until mid-2025.

After that, the installation of girders will take place.

The project remains on schedule for completion by 2026, with plans for a unique and innovative design.

The Mackenzie-Wismar Bridge project, valued at $35 million USD, is being carried out by the China Railway Construction Company.
