On Saturday, Marian Academy and Waramuri Primary will clash for the coveted title of MVP Sports Girls Under-11 Football Champions at the Ministry of Education grounds.
After six weeks of intense action, involving 16 teams in a round-robin and knock-out format, the stage is set for the grand finale.
Defending champions Marian Academy will face off against challenger Waramuri Primary for the top spot.
The winning school will take home $100,000 in-kind, along with trophies and medals.
Second place will receive $75,000, third place will be awarded $50,000, and fourth place will earn $25,000, with trophies for each.
Marian Academy’s coach, Troy Wright, acknowledged that their team is the target this year, but they’re embracing the pressure and are ready to defend their title.
“Any game that is a knock-out is tough, but we are confident in our preparation and looking forward to doing it again,” Wright stated.
Waramuri’s coach, Chance Herbst, said they know the challenge of facing the defending champions but have been preparing for the tough competition.
“Marian Academy is definitely good, but we’re ready for the challenge and are excited for the final. It’s going to be a great game,” Herbst shared.
The final match will kick off at 3:30 PM on Field One.
Before the championship game, placement rounds will take place, with Genesis playing Smith’s Memorial for 7th place, West Ruimveldt facing Stella Marris for 5th, and St. John the Baptist meeting Potaro Primary for 3rd.
In addition to the team awards, individual prizes will be given for the top goal scorer, MVP, and best goalkeeper, while the most disciplined team will also be recognized.
