Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., is calling for increased culture tourism at the community level, particularly in the Amerindian villages of Orealla and Siparuta in Region Six.

During a recent visit to these riverine communities, the Minister engaged with residents on ways to boost culture tourism and foster community development.

Ramson pointed out the growing global demand for authentic, culturally rich experiences, noting that Orealla and Siparuta’s natural beauty and cultural heritage make them ideal destinations for eco-tourism.

He emphasized, however, that in order to attract visitors, these communities must be prepared to offer more than just scenic landscapes.

Speaking to residents, Minister Ramson highlighted the importance of showcasing the unique culture of the villages.

He encouraged the community to capitalize on their youthful population, encouraging the creation of cultural performances and activities that reflect their traditions.

He assured the residents that the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport would offer support to make these ideas a reality.

The Minister also shared his experiences visiting other Amerindian villages with vibrant cultural groups, stating that these groups play a vital role in attracting visitors who often choose to stay overnight to experience the culture firsthand.

Minister Ramson’s visit aimed to open discussions with residents about how the Ministry can help preserve their heritage while creating economic opportunities through tourism.

His initiative aligns with the Ministry’s broader efforts to empower Indigenous communities and enhance sports, culture, and tourism across the country.
