The Ministry of Home Affairs has signed several major contracts totaling 1.1 billion dollars for key infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing the country’s prison and fire services.
The signed contracts encompass various projects, including the construction of living quarters at Mazaruni and Lusignan prisons, the expansion of the power network at New Amsterdam Prison, and the completion of the Paramakatoi Police Station, among others.
The timeline for the completion of these projects spans six to 12 months.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Andre Ally, stressed the importance of completing these projects on time, while adhering to safety protocols and ensuring the delivery of high-quality infrastructure.
In his address following the signing ceremony, Ally highlighted the monitoring mechanisms in place, including the use of a team of qualified engineers who will conduct frequent checks at project sites to ensure progress is made according to schedule.
The ministry is committed to real-time monitoring and providing constant oversight to contractors, helping them stay on track with the project timeline.
Contractors have pledged to meet the set timelines and maintain the highest standards of safety and quality throughout the duration of the projects.
This significant investment underscores the government’s commitment to improving facilities and ensuring better service delivery across the prison and fire services.
