The Guyana Police Force (GPF) is intensifying efforts to combat the rising crime rate in Region Six, with a series of targeted measures aimed at reducing criminal activity.
This was revealed by Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum during the launch of the Christmas policing plan.
Blanhum highlighted that, for the first time in history, Region Six’s crime figures have matched those of Division 4A, which traditionally recorded the highest levels of serious crime.
The region has seen significant increases in gun robberies, which are nearly double compared to the previous period, alongside rises in robbery with violence, rape, and burglary.
In response to this alarming surge, the police have deployed an intelligence team to the region, focusing on gathering information and addressing the crime wave.
Although initial efforts have slowed the increase in crime, Blanhum acknowledged that the situation remains challenging.
He emphasized that the GPF will continue to execute raids, roadblocks, and intelligence-led operations to restore order and bring crime rates to a manageable level.
Authorities are optimistic that these actions, along with the enhanced Christmas Policing Plan, will ensure a safer and more peaceful holiday season for Region Six residents.
In the meantime, local residents and business owners are urged to stay vigilant, install robust security systems, and cooperate with authorities to help combat the rise in criminal activities.
