In a heartfelt gesture to improve the lives of veterans, President Irfaan Ali today handed over the keys to a brand-new minivan to the Guyana Veterans Legion.
This donation comes as part of the President’s ongoing commitment to addressing the needs of the nation’s veterans.
The handover took place during the Veterans’ Day Wreath Laying Ceremony at Camp Ayanganna, where President Ali highlighted the quick turnaround in fulfilling a promise made just days earlier.
In a private meeting with the Legion’s president, the issue of transportation was raised, and the President had pledged to provide a new vehicle.
Instead of waiting the originally discussed three months, the government fast-tracked the delivery to just 24 hours.
“This vehicle is specially designed to ease the movement of veterans who may face challenges in transportation,” said President Ali. “We understand the importance of ensuring that veterans have the resources they need to live comfortably.”
In addition to the minivan, the President also announced the expansion of health services for veterans and their families.
These services will supplement the existing healthcare offerings provided by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF).
The new initiative will include additional care options such as dental services, spectacles, and extended benefits for veterans’ spouses and close family members, where applicable.
Prime Minister Mark Phillips also made a commitment to rehabilitate the veterans’ home, further enhancing the living conditions for those who have served the country.
This latest initiative is part of a broader effort to provide ongoing support and recognition for the veterans who have contributed to Guyana’s development.
