As Diwali, the Festival of Lights, brings people together in celebration of unity and renewal, the National Communications Network (NCN) marked the occasion with a special event for its staff, featuring the making and enjoyment of traditional sweet treats.
In keeping with the festive spirit, NCN prepared an array of popular Diwali delicacies on its compound, inviting staff to indulge in barfi, parsad, bara, pholourie, jelabi, and mittai—foods that symbolize joy, togetherness, and the warmth of the season.
The event not only served as a culinary delight but also as a reminder of the importance of tradition and community within the workplace.
Throughout the day, staff members gathered to share in the festivities, with many taking the opportunity to reflect on the significance of Diwali.
Delroy McIntyre, a staff member at NCN, expressed his appreciation for the occasion, noting his excitement for the Diwali motorcade and the creativity displayed by participants.
Although not of Hindu faith, McIntyre said he looks forward to seeing the lights and the vibrant celebrations that accompany the festival.
Another staff member, Fusha Loncke, shared that she particularly enjoys the food and the interactions between people during the Diwali celebrations.
She looks forward to seeing the community come together and enjoys the festive atmosphere.
Rukminee Balram, one of the chefs involved in the preparation of the sweet treats, shared her personal connection to the festival.
She spoke of the traditional practices, including decorating homes with lights, fireworks, and diyas, as well as preparing treats such as parasad, gulab jamoon, and peerah.
Diwali, rooted in ancient Hindu traditions, symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness and good over evil—a message that resonates globally.
The festival is celebrated through vibrant gatherings, prayers, and the sharing of sweet treats, bringing people together in the spirit of joy and unity.
NCN’s celebration of Diwali exemplified these values, fostering a sense of togetherness and cultural appreciation among its staff.
