With Diwali just days away, the East Bank Demerara region held its much-anticipated Praant Diwali motorcade and cultural show at the Diamond Market Tarmac.

This year’s motorcade was hailed as the largest of its kind in the area, featuring ten spectacular floats that highlighted the rich cultural traditions of the Hindu festival of lights.

The motorcade was a vibrant display of community spirit, with participants competing in various categories for prizes awarded to the best-prepared floats.

The event culminated at the Diamond Tarmac, where the winning floats were recognized for their creativity and craftsmanship.

Among the participants, Renatta Bhagwadin and Tia Chin shared their excitement over their achievements in the competition.

Bhagwadin expressed pride in securing third place in the small category, noting that while they had aimed for first place, they would be even more determined to win next year.

Chin, who won first place, reflected on her joy in participating with her sister and described the event as something she looked forward to every year.

Minister within the Office of the Prime Minister, Kwame McCoy, also attended the motorcade and took the opportunity to address the crowd.

In his speech, McCoy urged attendees to reflect on the deeper significance of Diwali and to draw inspiration from the lessons of the festival.

He emphasized the importance of overcoming challenges and taking lessons from the triumph of light over darkness, good over evil, and knowledge over ignorance, which Diwali represents.

The Diwali celebrations continue this week, with the 50th anniversary of the Diwali Motorcade scheduled to take place on Wednesday, making its way along the outskirts of the city and concluding at the LBI Community Center ground.

The Praant Diwali motorcade serves as a key event in the region’s celebration of Diwali, bringing together the community in a vibrant display of cultural pride and unity.
