On Sunday morning, scores of participants joined the annual One Communications Pinktober Breast Cancer Walk, held under the theme “Many Hearts, One Fight.”
The event aimed to raise awareness about breast cancer and support those battling the disease.
Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, commended One Communications for their ongoing efforts in the fight against breast cancer and outlined the government’s commitment to improving cancer detection.
He announced that by the end of the year, the government will invest in additional mammogram machines, with four new machines to be placed across various regions, including New Amsterdam, Linden, Suddie, and Lethem, to improve access to screening.
Dr. Anthony also highlighted the importance of immunizing children against cervical cancer and stressed the need for screenings, advocating for HPV vaccinations for children between the ages of 9 and 15.
He thanked the corporate sector for their contributions to the fight against cancer and urged the public to take proactive steps in cancer prevention, including regular screenings.
The Pinktober Walk serves as a vital reminder to support breast cancer awareness and promote early detection.
