The Guyana Harpy Eagles are gearing up for the CG United Regional Super50 tournament, which kicks off on October 29 in Trinidad.
With the leadership of Captain Tevin Imlach, the team is determined to end their 19-year title drought, having last secured the championship in 2005 under the captaincy of Shivnarine Chanderpaul.
In the final stages of their preparations, the team boasts a blend of experienced players and promising young talent.
However, the absence of key players such as Romario Shepherd, Gudakesh Motie, Shimron Hetmyer, and Sherfane Rutherford has opened opportunities for other members of the squad to step up and make an impact.
Captain Tevin Imlach emphasized the importance of balancing fitness and tactics for the upcoming competition.
He noted that as a bowling unit, building pressure and forcing the opposition to make mistakes will be crucial, while batting will require strong partnerships and consistent starts.
Vice-Captain Kemo Paul reiterated the team’s goal of winning the championship, acknowledging the lengthy title drought but stressing that the process of achieving success begins with maximizing their capabilities and focusing on the task at hand.
Batter Kevlon Anderson shared that team morale is high, with a strong sense of unity and a collective focus on achieving their goal together.
The Harpy Eagles have historically performed well in the Super50 tournament, reaching the finals 18 times since its inception in 1976.
Their last title win came in 2005. The tournament will feature 31 matches, culminating in the final on November 23 at the Brian Lara Academy in Tarouba, South Trinidad.
The Harpy Eagles are determined to make this edition of the Super50 their most successful yet.
