The Pesticide and Toxic Chemicals Control Board (PTCCB) has officially opened its $115 million Administrative Building, the first facility of its kind in Guyana.
Situated within the National Agricultural Research and Extension Institute (NAREI) compound, the building is designed to strengthen the management and regulation of chemicals across critical sectors such as agriculture, mining, oil and gas, manufacturing, and housing.
The facility was developed to address the increasing global demand for effective chemical oversight.
It provides a centralized location to support the safe regulation of substances that impact human health and the environment.
The newly commissioned building includes a ground-floor Licensing and Registration department and a fully equipped training room on the upper floor.
It will play a key role in promoting safer practices and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
In addition to enhancing administrative operations, the PTCCB laboratory, housed within the facility, has achieved accreditation, making it the first in Guyana to conduct fertilizer testing.
This accreditation underscores the government’s commitment to advancing chemical management and improving agricultural productivity.
Conceptualized in 2022 and completed in 2023, the state-of-the-art facility represents a significant investment in sustainable development and safety for Guyana’s key industries.
