Demerara wrapped up the round-robin stage of the Guyana Cricket Board Senior Males Inter-County Tournament with an unbeaten record, securing a comfortable victory over Essequibo at the Georgetown Cricket Club Ground, Bourda.
Batting first, Demerara posted a total of 227 all-out in 46 overs.
Akshaya Persaud led the charge with a solid half-century, scoring 62 runs, including six fours and one six.
Tagenarine Chanderpaul contributed 41 runs, and Ronaldo Ali Mohamed added 39.
For Essequibo, national and West Indies all-rounder Kemo Paul was the standout bowler, taking three wickets.
Quentin Sampson and Antony Adams supported with two wickets each.
In reply, Essequibo’s chase of 228 was derailed as their batters struggled to convert starts into substantial scores, losing wickets at regular intervals.
Kanhaiya Ramkarran (39) and Kemole Savory (30) were their top scorers.
Demerara’s Devon Lord, one of the tournament’s most consistent bowlers, took 3 wickets for 50 runs in 10 overs, ensuring his side’s dominant victory.
Meanwhile, at the Lusignan Community Ground, Berbice triumphed over the GCB Select XI, winning by six wickets.
The Select XI posted a modest total of 127 all-out, with Jonathan Van Lange top-scoring with 72 runs.
Berbice’s Kevin Sinclair was the standout bowler, claiming a five-wicket haul.
The final match of the tournament will take place on October 19 at GCC Bourda, where unbeaten Demerara will face second-place Essequibo for the championship.
