Seventy-four residents of Belle Vue, Region Three, were provided with spectacles on Thursday as part of the government’s ongoing Eye Testing and Spectacles Voucher program.
The initiative, led by the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, aims to improve the quality of life for vulnerable populations by addressing their vision needs.
Residents expressed gratitude for the support, emphasizing the significant difference the eyewear would make in their daily activities, such as reading and sewing.
Minister of Human Services and Social Security, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, highlighted the government’s commitment to investing in vulnerable communities across Guyana.
She noted that the eye care program has seen an expenditure of over $7 billion in Region Three alone, reflecting the administration’s dedication to ensuring access to essential services.
The Ministry has allocated approximately $21 billion for various social services in Region Three, demonstrating a broader commitment to enhancing the well-being of citizens throughout the region.
This initiative is part of the government’s continued efforts to meet the needs of underserved populations and bring essential services directly to communities.
