The Chief Executive Officer of the Republic Bank Caribbean Premier League (CPL), Pete Russell, declared this year’s tournament a resounding success, referring to it as a “hit out of the park.”

The tournament, which commenced in late August, culminated in an exciting finale on Sunday at the Providence National Stadium.

In the championship match, the defending champions, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, fell to the St. Lucia Kings by six wickets.

Russell noted a remarkable 20% increase in ticket sales, highlighting the heightened enthusiasm surrounding the tournament.

He commended Guyana for raising the bar and enhancing the league’s appeal through vibrant cricket carnival activities, creating an atmosphere described as the “biggest party” in sports.

Since its inception in 2013, the CPL has combined thrilling T20 cricket with a lively carnival vibe, attracting fans from across the region.

Russell emphasized the energy and excitement generated during the Guyana leg of the tournament, which he believes has set a new standard for future events.

Looking ahead, Guyana is set to continue showcasing its cricket carnival and renowned hospitality, with an agreement to host the CPL final renewed for next year.

This renewal provides the seven-time finalists, the Guyana Amazon Warriors, another opportunity to secure their second title on home soil.

The 2024 CPL tournament ran from August 29 to October 6, featuring competitive teams, including the Antigua & Barbuda Falcons, Barbados Royals, St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings, and Trinbago Knight Riders.
