Roofs Repaired in Linden: Government Intervenes After Rainstorm

Following a rainstorm that struck Linden on Tuesday, the government swiftly intervened to repair and strengthen the roofs of more than 30 homes affected by the severe weather.

Residents in the area can now rest easier, knowing their homes are being restored.

On Wednesday, Minister of Public Works Bishop Juan Edghill visited the impacted residents and coordinated with contractors to initiate immediate relief efforts.

He instructed Regional Executive Officer for Region Ten, Dwight John, to oversee the remedial work on the 33 homes that suffered damage, particularly in the heavily affected Berry Hill squatting area.

Contractors who have previously worked in the region were called upon to assist with the repairs on a voluntary basis.

John confirmed that materials, including zinc sheets, were procured locally to expedite the repair process.

The Civil Defence Commission (CDC) also played a crucial role by assessing the damage and distributing essential supplies such as cleaning materials, food items, and tarpaulins to those in need.

Additionally, two temporary shelters were set up for displaced residents.

Although the storm caused significant damage due to strong winds and heavy rain, John reported that there was no flooding in the affected areas.

One resident, Norvelle Fredericks from Baruda Oval, expressed satisfaction with the government’s prompt response after his roof was completely blown off.

As of Thursday, repairs on several homes had already been completed, with the remaining work expected to be finished soon.
