The Ministry of Human Services and Social Security is set to expand its shelter network to better support victims of gender-based violence.

Minister Dr. Vindhya Persaud announced this initiative at the recent Gender-Based Violence Health Symposium, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures for victims of domestic violence.

Dr. Persaud outlined plans to establish temporary safe homes within communities through the Community Advocacy Network (CAN).

These locations will be confidential, accessible only to those within the network.

Her remarks addressed concerns regarding the safety of domestic violence victims.

In collaboration with the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), the ministry is focusing on creating safe homes specifically for women.

This initiative aims to provide a secure environment for those fleeing violent situations.

Furthermore, the ministry is looking to expand its rent assistance program, which offers three months of support to help individuals experiencing violence transition out of their unsafe environments.

These initiatives reflect the ministry’s commitment to combating violence and providing essential support to victims, ensuring they have the necessary resources to rebuild their lives.
