The Ministry of Public Works has successfully completed 126 roads in South Georgetown, covering a total of 33.6 kilometers.
The project was overseen by the Ministry’s Special Projects Unit and has seen significant progress, with ongoing works on additional roads.
Minister of Public Works, Juan Edghill, conducted an inspection of the completed works and reported that approximately $716 million has been spent on these projects.
He expressed satisfaction with the quality of work done and noted that further steps, such as curing the concrete and striping, are next in line.
The roads completed span several areas, including Alexander Village, East Ruimveldt, East La Penitence, West Ruimveldt, West La Penitence, Charlestown, Roxeann Burnham Gardens, Rasville, and Shirley Field Ridley.
Minister Edghill highlighted the positive feedback received from residents regarding the improvements.
One resident noted the lighter feel of the repaired roads, while another, who has lived in Rasville for 31 years, praised the new road quality and the safety features like speed bumps that have been implemented.
In Roxeann Burnham Gardens, 14 roads were completed, totaling 3.4 kilometers at a cost of $76 million, while two roads in Shirley Field Ridley were constructed for $15.6 million, covering 0.7 kilometers.
The Special Projects Unit is also engaged in community road works in Lodge and surrounding areas.
The ongoing efforts in road development aim to enhance transportation infrastructure and improve accessibility for residents in these communities.
