National Library’s Vital Role in Promoting Literacy During Education Month

As part of the ongoing Education Month celebrations, the National Library is emphasizing its critical role in enhancing literacy and fostering lifelong learning among citizens.

Chief Librarian Emily King highlighted the library’s initiatives aimed at supporting literacy in its various forms, including reading, writing, mathematical literacy, and digital literacy.

Education Month holds particular significance for the National Library, not only in commemorating its establishment but also in reinforcing its commitment to educational advancement.

The library actively collaborates with schools and community organizations to provide children with access to books and research materials essential for their academic growth.

With library facilities available in all regions of Guyana, except Regions 2 and 8, the National Library organizes programs that assist students with their research needs.

These initiatives often involve educators who facilitate learning opportunities both in Georgetown and across the country.

The library offers a variety of year-round programs catering to all age groups, underscoring its dedication to promoting education.

This year’s Education Month theme, “Investing in Education, Bridging Gaps, Creating Opportunities,” aligns with the library’s mission to empower individuals through knowledge and access to resources.
