President Ali Calls for Urgent Reform of International Financial Systems at UN Summit

President of Guyana, Dr. Irfaan Ali, has called for immediate reforms to the global financial architecture to promote inclusivity and sustainable development.

Addressing the Summit of the Future during the 6th plenary meeting of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly, President Ali stressed the importance of securing climate financing and taking decisive action to meet global climate, energy, and food security goals.

The President emphasized the urgent need for $90 billion in annual global financing until 2030 to ensure basic social safety nets are in place, particularly for poverty-stricken communities.

He warned that failing to meet these basic needs jeopardizes the entire Agenda 2030, which aims to address pressing global challenges.

In his address, President Ali highlighted the importance of integrating women and youth into decision-making processes to ensure a future that works for all.

He stressed that these groups must play a central role in shaping global policies and actions moving forward.

Additionally, President Ali called for reforms within the UN Security Council, arguing that sustainable development cannot thrive without peace and security.

He noted that the Security Council must become more representative, responsive, and democratic to meet the challenges of today’s world.

In conclusion, the Guyanese Head of State underscored the need for the “Pact for the Future” to focus on building a dignified life for every global citizen, ensuring that no one is left behind in the pursuit of sustainable development.
