Efforts Intensify to Address Flooding Issues in Linden

In response to the persistent flooding in Linden, Opposition Member of Parliament Jermaine Figueira has been appointed to lead a dedicated team focused on finding solutions to this ongoing crisis.

This initiative follows a meeting with Prime Minister Mark Phillips, ministers, and local leaders, where the severity of the flooding in the Wismar and Mackenzie areas was discussed.

Over the weekend, Figueira and a team of engineers conducted assessments in the most affected neighborhoods, identifying blocked drainage systems as the primary cause of the flooding.

Figueira reported that Prime Minister Phillips has committed to clearing the drains in all communities experiencing flooding, as well as desilting and maintaining the creeks within these areas.

The team is tasked with creating both immediate and long-term strategies to alleviate the flooding issues.

Figueira indicated that a detailed report outlining recommendations for swift action will be submitted to the Prime Minister, emphasizing the need for consistent maintenance of drainage systems to prevent future flooding.

Local Councillor Wainewright Bethune pointed out that many culverts in the affected areas are either damaged or inadequately sized to manage the volume of water effectively.

He stressed the importance of ensuring proper water flow direction to mitigate future flooding incidents.

Residents of Linden remain hopeful that these interventions will provide the much-needed relief from the flooding challenges they face.
