Thousands Gain Access to Potable Water as GWI Completes New Well at Covent Garden

Residents of Little Diamond and Great Diamond are now benefiting from access to potable water following the completion of a new well at Covent Garden by the Guyana Water Incorporated (GWI).

This project, which serves around 10,000 residents, was officially completed with the successful interconnection of water lines.

Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Susan Rodrigues, visited the treatment plant on Wednesday alongside GWI’s Director of Projects, Marlon Daniels, to oversee the final stages of the project.

The well’s completion and the installation of the interconnecting lines were vital to providing consistent water service to Little Diamond and Great Diamond, including Sections 1, 2, and 3.

This newly completed project primarily benefits young professionals and residents with house lots in these areas.

Minister Rodrigues assured those who have already started construction or are planning to build that the area is now fully serviced with GWI water connections, marking a significant step towards enhancing living conditions and supporting home ownership.

The Ministry of Housing and Water is committed to expanding access to potable water, aiming to serve communities across both coastal and hinterland areas, meeting the growing demand for this essential service.

The completion of the Covent Garden well is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to provide critical infrastructure to improve the quality of life for all Guyanese.
