Guyana to Participate in International Coastal Cleanup Day

On September 21, Guyana will join countries around the globe in observing International Coastal Cleanup Day.

The Caribbean Youth Environmental Network, in collaboration with the Guyana Environmental Protection Agency, is encouraging community participation in this initiative.

The cleanup event will commence at 7 a.m. at the Marriott foreshore, aiming to gather volunteers to help remove litter from the beach.

Organizers expect approximately 200 participants to contribute to this vital effort.

In addition to cleaning the beach, the initiative will include sessions designed to raise awareness about sustainable practices related to plastic waste management.

The sessions will focus on the environmental impact of plastic, which is known for its difficulty in degrading.

All necessary materials for the cleanup will be provided to volunteers.

Additionally, the event will feature an activity called “The Great Nurdle Hunt,” which aims to further engage participants in environmental awareness.

This cleanup initiative represents a collective effort to address plastic pollution and promote environmental stewardship in Guyana.
